About The Seamless Bible and The Seamless Gospels

Question:
I have seen other sequential (harmony) versions of the New Testament.  How is this one different?

Answer:
The Seamless Bible presents a "narrative harmony" of the King James New Testament, blending the text into a single thread of events.  Other sequential ones are "columnar harmonies" (by book, followed by its verses) which by their nature obscure the direction of the message and beauty of phrasing.

The Seamless Bible preserves the pure King James language in a fluid format, maintaining the original detail of events, consolidating only actual duplications, and replacing the old archaic words (speed bumps) with modern ones for the reader.  Others may contain the personal editing and opinions of the author, which can compromise the true meaning, or use Bible versions other than the King James Version.  We, however, feel that the King James translation reflects a beautiful language that more truly reflects Christ's message.

We think you will agree that our presentation of the journey of Christ leaves the reader free to enjoy the uninterrupted story, much as he or she would a novel.  Except this one is true.

Question:
How does this version differ from "The Message Bible" by Eugene Peterson?
Answer:
The Seamless Bible conveys the King James Version of The New Testament, which we feel carries a more graceful and powerful presentation of events.

The first section, "The Journey of Christ," blends all verses of the four Gospels in a single narrative that brings the four together as one - the one Gospel of Jesus Christ.  (We have a verse-level format available for viewing.)  "The Message Bible" developed yet another version of the Bible, translated as a more contemporary and colloquial wording of text.  Although a complete new translation of the Gospels, it retains a verse-by-verse, book-by-book presentation of the Gospels.

The second section, "The Journey of the Apostles," sequences the acts and letters of the Apostles in a single thread of time.  The letters, according to the date they were written, are inserted into and after the book of Acts at the opportune time they would have been written.  To that sequencing, we bring the verse-by-verse format into a narrative presentation.  "The Message Bible" continues with a verse-by-verse, book-by-book format.

In The Seamless Bible we replace only the archaic words of the old translation to smooth the reading of the original story, for the original wording reveals the best and truest path to the light.  "The Message Bible," however, takes historical events and supplies a new colloquial interpretation that is far different in language than King James.

Question:
What credibility or experience does the author have in preparing these books?
Answer:

The author/compiler and others involved in the creation of these books are experienced professionals in management, computer systems, and marketing.  Study and research conducted in the preparation of these works spanned twenty years and involved multiple compilations and reviews of textual correctness.

It was reviewed for clarity by a panel of advisors from religious walks, including religious scholars, pastors, and chaplains.  In addition to technical scrutiny, a second practical review by everyday readers considered the appropriateness for modern-day readers and everyday seekers of Truth.

The guiding vision was to create books that were true to the King James Version and whose presentation would let the light of the Word shine through a refreshed old favorite.

The author/compiler is a lifelong member of Disciples of Christ.  He carried his love of the King James Bible from his childhood days forward into a search for a more meaningful and readable version.  This led to intense review and analysis of the many works of biblical scholars in preparation for compiling the King James New Testament to include clarification features rather than interpretation features.  As he once said of his journey, "Belief led to study, study led to guidance, and guidance led to assurance."

We ask that you read our production of the King James New Testament and let the result itself speak with the power, beauty, and guidance that the original is famous for bringing to our ancestors --  and now to us.

Question:
Why did you choose the King James Version as a basis for your text?  Were any modifications made to the text?

Answer:
The King James Version was chosen because its beauty has never been surpassed by any translation or combination of translations.  Changes were made where original words had lost their contemporary meaning or might, in fact, obscure the original meaning.  These are documented in an associated "New Testament Dictionary" where the reader is invited to trace back to the original usage.  No other changes were made, and all other text remains the pure King James text.

It is presented in a narrative style that we believe will let the reader read the story and not just the words.  Most importantly, we chose the King James Version because the beauty of its language needs to be preserved for our children -- and for our children's children.
Question:
What determined your sequence of events?

Answer:
For the four Gospels, we reviewed the different sequencing plans that had been applied to published harmonies during the past 100 years, looking for agreements and variations.  In "The Journey of Christ" we followed the conclusions of the majority of scholars.  While there is not a complete agreement on the sequencing of all events, the majority opinion was compelling to us.

For the Act and Letters of the Apostles, we studied the method of dating the letters most recently favored by the scholars.  Using this method, we settled on the most likely time the letters were written.  In "The Journey of the Apostles" we identified the places in the book of Acts where its text indicated the time they were most likely written.  We placed eleven of them in this time span.  We placed the remaining eleven letters after the close of the historical record of the book of Acts.

"'The Seamless Bible' puts order into complicated stories and is beautiful to read as well.  I find it a much-needed and welcome gift and hope the ease in reading the New Testament that it provides will help to spread the Word to others like me."
